lili's musings

scared

I begin each day checking my work email and reading the news. I reprimand myself for it. Why do you do this to yourself? Make some time to think for yourself. Take a break!

Still each morning like clockwork before I even get up, I check my phone. I used to go to bed with a book and read until I fall asleep. I found this relaxing and enriching. In the past week, I've gone to bed with my phone checking the news.

Everything is in disarray. Funding for science is unclear and everyone at work is nervous. The leaders are afraid to write DEI anywhere for fear of retaliation, and only voice their support in closed rooms. My partner told me that if ICE comes to their school to target the child refugees, they wouldn't let them in their classroom. What a thought!

Most of all, I fear for my own personal safety and the safety of all trans people in this country. Everyone wants to avoid the news but can't help checking to see how it affects them. We all become more and more familiar with mutual aid. We share food, shelter, hormones, education, and community.

Talk about communes has intensified.

We're scared. We fight.
